Hi there !

Today, I will talk about a fruit called "Apricot" which is also eaten in dried form too. Apricot is having it's significance in health care and beauty care as well. It is used in beauty scrubs and beauty care regime.

Introduction :


Apricots are bright yellow or you can also say golden orange colored fruits.
Apricots belong to the Rosaceae family of fruit trees. Peaches, plums, and nectarine also fall in the same category. Apricots are generally available during the summer.
Dried and canned apricots are available all the year round. Apricot is velvety soft skin fruit that shows, close resemblance to peaches appearance.

Apricots have a centrally located single seed which is surrounded by  edible flesh. They have a smooth and sweet flavor which is full of musky flavor and very light tartness. The seed is also edible and resembles almonds in taste and appearance. It is enclosed in a hard stony shell often called a “stone”. Oil extracted from these seeds is used in cooking. And often seeds are substituted as almonds. Sometimes people use apricot seeds instead of almonds.

Apricot contains seed and has uses in beauty.


Apricots are a available in fresh and in dried form and can be enjoyed both fresh and dried. However, it is to be noted that fresh fruits have higher vitamin C content and they are more healthy by some while dried form of apricots are long lasting, can be stored and are generally preferred by dieters. Some experts say dried form is more nutritious than their fresh counterparts. Apricots are used in various recipes and forms.

Although the fruit is not a native of India, it is widely used in both fresh and dried forms of the fruit in different parts of the country. Apricots comes in May and is available until the month of August.
It's rich nutritional content makes a most popular fruit of North and South America. This fruit was first grown in the China and then distributed to all over the world. Some of the highly apricot producing countries are Spain, Italy, Russia, Turkey, France, United States and Greece. It is said that Apricots had been originated from Armenia.

Apricot is used in three forms.

Apricot kernel oil has a gentle golden color. It has a very faint nutty scent.
Apricot kernel oil is a thin and light oil, which easily absorbs into skin. It is non-greasy and resembles with almond oil or peach oil in texture. It's Comedogenic Rating is 2 and it has shelf Life of 1 year (if refrigerated, 2 years). It has low potential for Irritation and shows side-effects rarely yet it is recommended to do a patch test before using it.
Apricots whether in fresh fruit form or in dried form is beneficial for beauty of skin and hair. Even apricot kernel oil or seed oil is of much significance when we talk about it's use in beauty.

  BEAUTY BENEFITS OF APRICOT FOR SKIN :-


1).    Helps In Healing Damaged Skin ~

Apricot is beneficial for the skin. If you have damaged skin then switch off to apricots. Oil made up of apricot is known as apricot oil. As seeds of apricots are used in making it, it is known as Apricot kernel oil.
We can obtain apricot seed oil from the dried seeds of the fruit. It helps in softening the skin as it contains high amount of vitamin C. It is capable of treating a variety of skin conditions without making your skin oily as it is non greasy in nature. It is an excellent moisturizer for hair and works great on face and hands by moisturising property and can cure damaged skin without showing side-effects.

Apricot is good for damaged skin.


2).  Skin Moisturizer ~

If your skin is dry and irritated, then apricot seed oil can do wonders to your skin. You can consume this fruit fresh or in dried form and you can apply apricot kernel oil onto your skin to treat dry and irritated skin. The quality of apricot oil behind it is that it has high content of essential fatty acids and vitamin A. It has great moisturizing properties which helps in hydrating your skin cells. It  counteracts any drying effects associated with exfoliation of your skin and  provides you a healthier and softer skin surface.
It must be noted that apricot kernel oil is good for moisturizing oily skin types too. It is a light in texture and is also called ‘dry’ oil by some as it doesn’t leave skin greasy.

To make your own moisturizer just melt 1 cup of shea butter in a double boiler. Always melt it in double boiler to avoid burning, fire or any accident. Now you can add ¼ cup of apricot kernel oil to it. After this, refrigerate this mixture for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, you can add 20 drops of ylang ylang oil. Now, whip this mixture well using a hand mixer till it turns white and fluffy. You can transfer it by pouring into a clean container and it is ready to use as a light body moisturizer.

When apricot seed oil is applied to skin, it immediately gets absorbed  leaving skin non-greasy. It gives a feeling of light and dry yer moisturizing. You can use it as a moisturizer for dry areas such as elbows, knees, feet and hands. This will make your skin extra soft and smooth.
If you have acne prone skin, then please keep in mind that apricot seed oil can clog your pores since it has a comedogenic rating of 2. You can use it sparingly under your makeup or usual moisturizer. And take precautions while using it on acne prone skin.


Apricot kernel oil is great moisturiser.




3).   Scrubs & Exfoliate ~

Apricots are very good scrubs. Many brands of apricot scrubs are available in the market. Apricot scrub is very good for the skin as it cleanses the skin well and removes all the dirt and dead skin cells leaving the skin soft, clear and youthful.
Apricot seed oil is also a good ingredient for a DIY scrub. You can just mix it with sugar instead of olive oil,almond oil or coconut oil. You  easy to make but wonderful scrub I'd ready. It exfoliates your skin well. You can use it regularly before shower.  It is recommended to not exfoliate daily as it can be harmful to the skin. You can exfoliate 2 times a week and your skin will definitely appear soft and young.
Apricot is a very good exfoliator as your skin gets deeply cleansed, and it wear out all the impurities from the skin. It helps in removal of blackheads, white heads and unclogged pores  leaving your radiant with beautiful healthy glow as it stimulates the growth of new skin cells.
To make a scrub, you can directly grind fresh apricot fruit and use it or you can simply soak dried apricot in water. Then, grind it in granular form. You can add curd or yoghurt into it or add almond oil. After it use it as a scrub.

Apricot is a good scrub & exfoliator.


4).  Removes Blackheads ~

As we already discussed above,
apricot scrub is a very good cleanser and cleanses the skin deeply by removing dead skin cells and blackheads as well as unclogging pores. This way it helps in keeping the skin smooth and radiant by stimulating fresh cell growth.

Apricot helps in removal of blackheads & whiteheads.



5).   As An Oil Cleanser ~

You can use apricot kernel oil as oil cleanser.This confused you ??? Haha but it is true. Apricot kernel oil is good for oily to normal skin.
You can mix ¼ cup of apricot kernel oil and ¼ cup of sweet almond oil in a clean bowl. And you can use this mixture as oil cleanser. You can store it in clean bottle too.

Just take only 3 drops of oil on your fingertips and massage it on your face in circular motion in upward direction for a minute. Dip a clean washcloth in hot water then put it on your face covering it to open your pores. After that, wipe the face with the same cloth. Lastly, rinse your face with cool water to close up your pores. You can do this every night if you have time or at least once a week.



6).   Remove Eye Make Up ~

You can use apricot seed oil to remove eye make up. You can wipe off the mascara and eyeliner using apricot kernel oil. Add few drops of apricot kernel oil on a clean cotton ball. And then gently wipe your eyes twice. At last, wash you face with clean water.

Apricot seed oil is used to remove eye make up.


7).   Prevents Wrinkles ~

Apricots are very helpful in reducing wrinkles. You can use a scrub prepared from apricots that helps in getting rid of the old, dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. It helps new skin cells to re-grow. You can also use apricot kernels scrub to achieve it. The exfoliating attributes of apricotes helps in getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles as it eliminates the damaged surface cells from the skin.

It fades away fine lines and wrinkles from face and prevents them hence, showing anti-ageing properties.
Apricot kernel oil contains the unsaturated fatty acids with the Vitamin E. These are good for youthful skin.
For anti-ageing skin serum you can take 1 tbsp of apricot kernel oil and 1 tbsp of argan oil in a clean bowl. Now, you can add 6 drops geranium oil and 6 drops lavender oil. You can apply 2-3 drops on your whole face twice a day.

Apricot helps in wrinkle prevention.


8).   Nourishes Skin ~

Consuming Apricot and applying it as face pack nourishes your skin.
Apricot kernel oil is rich in GLA, or Gamma Linoleic Acid. It helps in maintaining the balance of moisture in your skin. This beneficial acid makes your skin toned and firm. The vitamins A and E in the oil delays the signs of aging as they help in keeping it well-nourished. Apricot kernel oil is anti-inflammatory and thus it is effective in treating and soothing skin conditions like eczema. It is having antioxidant properties that help fight the damage caused by free radicals.



9).   Maintains Elasticity Of The Skin ~

Apricot oil helps in maintaining skin clarity, suppleness, and elasticity. It can be used with other fruit oils as a facial mask to soften your skin. It is often used in aromatherapy massage due to its revitalizing and nourishing effects on the skin. Being very mild natural oil, it is used in baby products.



10).   Treats Skin Disorders ~

Apricot is rich in vitamin C and vitamin A that helps in treating skin orders. Apricot oil is also rich in vitamin C and vitamin A and hence, it is very good for sensitive skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties making it very effective for the treatment of skin disorders like dermatitis and eczema. You can also combine apricot oil in with other essential oils. This will give you a soothing effect on skin disorders.

I always recommend you to consult your doctor before using anything whether you have to consume it or apply it. Here also, I advise you to consult your doctor before using apricot or apricot oil. I already mentioned in my articles that any fruit veggie or herb can also have side-effects and it may be harmful. To avoid any adverse side effects, it is better to take advice of doctor first.

The fleshy part of apricot is helpful in acne. It can help in healing of acne and clearing it.
You can grind the leaves of apricot in a grinder to get its juice. You can apply it topically and it can help to get rid of itching caused by sunburn, eczema, and scabies.
You can also apply fleshy part of apricot topically for the same benefit.



11).   Aids In Removal Of Blemishes ~

Apricot oil has anti-ageing properties.
It has proven to be useful in keeping premature signs of ageing at bay. You can use apricot in facial masks. It can be effective in eliminating skin blemishes without any side effects whatsoever.



12).   Improves Skin Tone ~

Apricot is used as exfoliator. Apricot scrubs are also available in the marker. Apricot scrubs can help in improving your skin tone by exfoliating the damaged skin cells and wearing out all the dirt along with dead cells. This prevents the pigmentation and gives you the newer and lighter skin cells beneath.


13).   In Soaps As An Ingredient ~

Apricot oil is used a lot in soaps. Apricot is also used in scrubs available in market. You can use apricot oil to make your own DIY soap at home. It can also be mixed with other oils such as olive, coconut or almond oils to give it extra richness. By using it as an ingredient for a natural homemade soap, you can make your skin beautiful and flawless by giving it all the benefits that it has. Apricot oil has a mild nice nutty scent. It can be used with essential oils such as lavender essential oil, lemon essential oil or jasmine essential oil as they are good carrier oils.

Apricot oil is used in soaps.

Apricots are used to moisturize and nourish dry and mature skin. The reason behind it is that Apricot seed oil is rich in high fatty acids, Vitamin E and A. This oil is popularly used in cosmetics like creams, soaps, and skin lotions. The oil gets easily absorbed into the skin without leaving any oily residue. Hence, this is also used for massage and as sunbathing oil. You can use this as a base with other aromatherapy oils.



15).   Good For Skin Health ~

Apricot seed oil is very light and gentle on the skin in texture. This makes it to be used to moisturize normal and oily skin. The very light texture of this oil makes it useful as a face serum. Apricot kernel oil doesn’t give a greasy coat on the application. This also rehydrates and moisturises your skin.



16).   As Night Oil ~

This oil works well when used as a night moisturizer. You can mix it with any other essential oil that suits you and massage gently. Always cleanse and tone your face before doing applying it as night oil. This will help you to get rid of clogged pores, a shiny nose and will also moisturize dry skin.

Apricot seed oil gets very quickly absorbed into the skin, which is the best property of any massage oil. This also increases the benefits of massage to reduce stress, pain and inflammation. This oil is very mild and non-irritating, and can even be used for children and infants.

Apricots contain nutrients that makes them beneficial for hair. Apricot oil is useful in maintaining hair health.



1).   Promotes Hair Growth ~

The vitamin E in apricot oil supports healthy hair growth and prevents hair loss. Vitamin E in combination with fatty acids acts as a preservative and thus it is helpful in preventing damage by free radicals.


2).   Good Conditioner ~

Apricot oil contains oleic and linoleic acids. These two can do wonders for your hair. Apricots are packed with loads of vitamins A and E. These two work great to hydrate and is good for conditioning. You can add Apricot oil to your shampoo or conditioner for extra softness as it has moisturizing effects. It will give your hairs extra bounce. It is also used as treatment oil before chemical treatments.


3).   Good For Hair Health ~

Dry and flaky scale is quite annoying. You can massage your hair by mixing this with other oils like Amla, coconut, and olive to treat a dry and flaky scalp. It is very good for damaged and chemically treated hair. This will give shine and lustre to your locks.


4).   Treat Scalp Problems ~

Apricot oil contains vitamins A and E. These two are great for skin health. They are essential in skin repair. Thus, it is a great home remedy for problems like dry scalp, psoriasis, dandruff, and eczema. Apricot oil gives moisture to dry or flaky scalp or dull and dry hair.
